We bring together a wide range of lived experiences, cultural knowledge, and professional skills, all rooted in a shared understanding of the challenges faced by South Asian Women.
Nilufar Verjee
Interim CEO
Nilufar is a highly accomplished leader with extensive experience in social justice, gender equality and community engagement. Having served as the Chair of Henna for four years, she was appointed as Interim CEO in July 2025 with approval from the Charities Commission. As Interim CEO she is responsible for leading and managing Henna’s dedicated team to deliver activities in line with its aim, charitable objects and strategic plan. She also works closely with the Board of Trustees and external partners to deliver all aspects of operations including income generation Along with senior-level leadership, HR and fundraising skills gained in previous roles in well-known UK charities including Director of Advocacy and Engagement at the Fairtrade Foundation and Director of Women’s Economic Empowerment at CARE International UK, Nilufar also has vital financial, business management and marketing skills gained from her corporate roles at Kraft Foods and Cadbury’s.
Sajida Gitay
Project Support Officer
Sajida works closely with her team to ensure the smooth delivery of Monday activities and leads the telephone befriending service, helping to build meaningful connections and reduce social isolation.
Afjan Chowdhury
Project Support Officer
Afjan works within a team to deliver community projects by organising activities, tracking progress and writing reports. She collects impact information to ensure projects achieve their objectives. Currently leads a peer support group as part of our mental health programme, creating a safe and inclusive space for participants, and facilitates creative arts & crafts sessions that promote wellbeing, confidence and community connection.
Bushra Begum
Project Support Officer
Bushra plays an essential role in keeping projects organised and running efficiently. She supports planning, coordination, and communication efforts to ensure deadlines are met and goals remain aligned. Through her administrative, operational, and logistical support, she helps drive projects forward while maintaining a strong commitment to quality and teamwork.
